Professor of social economics at NTNU
Ragnar Torvik is a professor of social economics at NTNU, and has previously worked at the University of Oslo and Norges Bank. In 1996, Torvik was awarded the Honorary Medal of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for best doctoral dissertation.
Torvik is engaged by Norges Bank to advise on what implications a lower oil price should have for monetary policy, and is also engaged by the Norwegian Ministry of Finance to advise on the impact of fiscal policy with particular emphasis on how this can contribute to conversion. In 2017, the Swedish government appointed Torvik as the foreign member of the Fiscal Council, which provides an independent review of Swedish fiscal policy.
